European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)
The Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) EIT RawMaterials is an innovation-oriented network for excellent research that connects industry, research organisations and universities, thus, covers the entire value chain. The network bundles over 100 partners from 20 countries. It is the largest consortium on raw materials research in Europe. In its focus lie research projects on sustainable raw materials exploration and mining, extraction, processing, recycling and substitution. Fraunhofer project group IWKS is an active KIC partner concerned with both project coordination and the development of sustainable technologies and concepts.
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is an independent organisation of the European Union, a long-term and dynamical network, founded 2008 with the head office in Budapest. Together with leading reserach partners and enterprises EIT RawMaterials tackles Europe's challenges on an environmentally friendly and economically stable supply with necessary raw materials. In the course of the KIC programme innovative products and services are being developed, start-up enterprises and the next generation of entrepreneurs are being supported.
The dedicated topics of EIT RawMaterials are primary raw materials - mining, processing technology, metallurgy and mine waste -, secondary raw materials - material flows, logistics, mechanical processing, metallurgy-, substitution - new materials and products-, increase of process and energy efficiency as well as sustainability.
