About Dr. Marc Widenmeyer
Dr. Marc Widenmeyer is since July 2019 group leader at the Institute of Materials Science at the Technical University of Darmstadt working on sustainable energy conversion materials.
He studied chemistry at the University of Stuttgart and completed his diploma thesis in 2010. His doctoral work was situated around the in situ neutron diffraction analysis of the formation of (metastable) transition metal nitrides, which he completed in 2014. Afterwards, he moved to the Institute of Materials Science and switched topic to perovskite-type oxynitrides for solar water splitting and oxygen transport membranes for plasma-assisted carbon dioxide conversion. Since 2019 he is a member of the review panel of the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, France, serving since 2021 as its chairperson. Also, he is the scientific staff representative in the PhD Committee of the Materials Science department at TU Darmstadt.
He has published more than 70 SCI papers on different fields of chemistry and materials science. In recent years his research focus moved to the implementation of circular material design in order to quantify and minimize environmental impacts of the material right from the beginning of material design helping to avoid taking wrong turns in the sense of sustainability.
